No data collected

Context Clue does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to us. No analytics, no tracking, no accounts, no servers of our own.

Your camera

Context Clue works by appearing as a camera of its own. Video from your real camera is processed on your Mac and passed straight through to whichever app you’ve selected it in.

Frames are never recorded, never written to disk, and never sent anywhere. The part of Context Clue that handles your video runs as a macOS camera extension with no network access at all. It cannot reach the internet, and that’s enforced by macOS rather than promised by us.

Location

If you turn on Location or Weather, Context Clue asks macOS for your approximate location — deliberately coarse, not your precise position. It’s used to show a place name on your card, and to ask Apple’s WeatherKit what the weather is doing there.

Apple receives that approximate location in order to answer. We never do. Apple’s handling of it is covered by Apple’s Privacy Policy.

If you’d rather not share location at all, you can type a place name yourself and leave Location switched off.

Your settings

Everything you configure — what appears on your card, where it sits, your drink count — is stored on your Mac. It doesn’t sync, and it’s never sent to us.

Purchases

Removing the watermark is a one-time purchase made through Apple’s App Store. Apple handles the payment; the app only learns whether the purchase was made. We never see your payment method, your Apple Account, or who you are.

Third parties

No third-party SDKs, advertising networks, or analytics services are used. Weather comes from Apple’s WeatherKit and the purchase goes through Apple; that’s the complete list of services involved.
